Highschoolace.com is a website designed for high school teachers. It is not only available to English teachers but other secondary education teachers as well. Just click on the link for your subject area and it will open a new page with creative and innovative ideas. This website offers many helpful guides for high school teachers. There is vocabulary help which includes crossword puzzles, vocabulary quizzes, and a word of the day section. It also has literature, writing, and research guides. There is a spelling section which has commonly confused words along with spelling tests. Poetry 180 and other poetry lessons and activities are also available on this website. Highschoolace.com also has a list of great literary works that is linked to wikipedia and offers in depth information on each piece.
The grammar bytes section would be very helpful to an intern because it offers several examples of terms and there are also exercises and handouts. These handouts are ready to print and would be a very effective way for learning grammar. I also think that the great literary works section would be beneficial for an intern because you can get detailed information on several literary works. For example, my cooperating teacher is teaching Romeo and Juliet this semester. Through this website I can go on and click on the link for Romeo and Juliet and get a lot of great information.
A beginning teacher should use this website because it offers great information for all aspects of English. It offers poetry, literary works, vocabulary, and grammar information. There are also a lot of ready to print exercises that are easy to use even at the last minute. The list of common grammatical errors and commonly misspelled words would also be beneficial to a first year teacher and is something they could use as an aid or an in-class warm-up. The links to literary works would beneficial for a first year teacher as well because it may offer information that the instructor did not know before. Highschoolace.com is very user-friendly and requires no registration or fees. Simply go to the sight, click on your subject area, and follow any of the links according to your planning. There are great examples, guides, and ready to use exercises that would be beneficial to any teacher.
